Rewriting is excellent for improving our language skills. It also helps persuade us to look at a subject from a different viewpoint.

Ever had a space that was just completely useless? One of those corners that gathered dust, served as nothing more than storage space to dump all those little extras. Why? With just a little thought and imagination, you can turn such neglected areas around into working corners of charm for your home.

There is one big problem with such a small project; it occupies too much time and gives too little reward. After all that effort, the final result may be a corner which just hides away all of your hard work. But let ’ s set that aside for now. Let me take charge, and I ’ll show you some fun DIY ideas about ways to turn those forgotten corners around into something beautiful.'

The Cozy Reading Nook

For a person who has always 1 an unfulfilled desire for a quiet place in which to sit down and read, why not convert an empty corner into a reading nook? It doesn ’ t take much—only a comfy chair, a small table, and some good light.'

I made a reading nook in my living room out of the flea market-find old armchair. I added a soft throw blanket, a couple of cushions and a floor lamp with a warm glow. Over the chair, I hung up a floating shelf to hold my favorite books and a little plant. Now, after a long day, it ’ s my favorite spot to kick back and relax.

Pro Tip: Put a small rug under the chair to define the space and make it more cozy.

Floating Shelves for Display

Floating shelves are a classic choice for good reason… they look sleek, and ideas for the text.

I chose a little corner in my kitchen and put up a set of floating shelves. The shelves are now holding spice jars of varying shapes and sizes alongside my travelsouvenir vase,a couple books...they add interest and functionality to what was originally just a triangular dead space.

Why not use reclaimed wood to give the shelves an earthy feel, or paint them in bright colors that really pop?

A Mini Picture Wall

Why let a corner go to waste when it could be used as an art wall? Hang a mini picture wall in your room-a combination of framed prints, family photos and small mirrors is both great for creating a little extracharacter and space.

In my bedroom I did this and it made the whole room more homey instantly. Simple frames of different sizes, all in the same color scheme make for a polished vignette. The best part? I can change out the artwork whenever I feel like it!

Pro tip: Stick-on hooks, such as those found at 3M, make for a damage-free way to hang pictures or other decorations on walls in a temporary or rented setting.

A Plant Corner

An empty corner can be transformed into a miniature garden. Plants make an enormous difference to a room, especially in groups. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just starting out there are plenty of options to suit your style and space.

Putting an end table with some shelves in one corner of my living room has made it a very special corner indeed. I potted all kinds of plants- greens big and small; hanging pots for top growths, succulents-including some spillover varieties just for good measure; and there's now even some fairy lights strung about. It is probably on pc one of these days soon!

Why not fashion a cheap plant stand from wood crates or stack shelves together tightly and surround them by bright green leaves?

A Corner Bar CartConnectionFactory

Are you a party animal? Then why not change that nook into a sleek, compact cocktail corner? All you need is a small cart beverage trolley in which to store everything from your favorite wines or spirits to equipment. If you love entertaining, why not turn an empty corner into a bar cart setup? All you need is a small cart, some pretty glassware, and your favorite drinks.

I finded this cart at a second-hand store and refurbished it with a fresh coat of paint. This helped to create storage for my wine bottles, cocktail mixes, and a few ornamental trinkets like candles and greeting cards. It is always popular when friends come around. It’s a hit every time I have friends over.

Pro Tip: Don’t like drinking? The cart placed to one side of the room can easily be transformed into a coffee or tea station.

The Functional Workstation

There are many people working from home nowadays, and that means a vacant corner in your living room can now turn into a small but functional workplace with just an Ikea floating desk or a tiny writing table and comfortable chair.

So the other day, I helped a friend set up a corner office in her apartment. We mounted a plywood desktop, put a corkboard up for her notes and photos, and planted a basket under the whole thing as storage. It’s waves of simplicity, and doesn’t take up much room.

DIY Hack: Add a pencil holder or a few little shelves above the desk to keep things tidy.

A Creative Kids’ Corner

If you have kids, an empty corner can become their creative space. Set up the table and chairs here, add storage boxes for coloring or play-doh, and the children will be off on their own.

When my niece visits, I set up a corner like this for her. I painted a small chalkboard on the wall between two windows so she could draw and placed a few baskets nearby for her crayons and paper. She just adores it, and it keeps off her busy for hours. Pro Tip: Use washable mats or rugs to protect your floor from spills and stains.

A Statement Lighting Feature

Sometimes an empty corner cries out for a piece of art. A tall floor lamp or a pendant light can add drama to any space and make it feel more elegant.

I have a dark corner in the dining room, so I hung a pendant light from above it- and foi la! The whole room has changed its style! It's now a warm and cozy spot to eat dinner with friends or family.

DO: String lights or fairy lights for an economical lighting solution
